Infinite Interlacements

2006 MAWS Conference Show

Basic Information and Criteria

1. Entries may include hand spun, hand woven, or basketry techniques and also may incorporate other techniques such as plaiting, felting, papermaking, knitting, knotting, crochet, handmade lace, braiding, beading, etc.

2. They must be the handwork of person under whose name they are entered. If more than one person has participated in production of a piece, both names should be included.

3. Entries must have been completed after August 1, 2004.

4. Entry forms must be completely filled out and postmarked by July 20, 2006.

5. Actual items should be delivered to conference headquarters or mailed to Karin Utzinger, 3402 Wagon Wheel Rd., Bozeman, MT 59715, by Monday, August 21, unless previous arrangements have been made. (Time is needed to hang the show.)

6. Shipping and insurance will be the responsibility of the artist. If the entrant is unable to pick up the items at the end of the conference, the entry must include a suitable packing container and material plus return postage or the item will be returned C.O.D.

7. The show will be open to all MAWS participants without jurying. Prizes will be awarded to selected pieces. Anyone not wanting his/her piece to be considered for a prize should indicate that on the entry form.

8. Divisions will include the following (with several categories within each) : A. Useful Household items; B. Decorative Household items; C. Handwoven wearables; D. Handwoven yardage (minimum of 3 yards); E. Dyed and Undyed Handspun items (knitted, felted, handwoven, etc.); F. Handspun yarn of plant, animal, blended fibers (minimum 30 yards per skein; G. Basketry.

Categories

A. Functional Household Items

  1. Handwoven Rugs
  2. Rugs done in other technique
  3. Household Accessories (kitchen, bath, bedroom, living room, etc.)

B. Decorative Items

  1. Wall hangings, tapestries, pictorial items
  2. 3-Dimensional Pieces

C. Wearables

  1. Vests, dresses, ensembles, and other indoor wearables
  2. Jackets, coats, and other outerwear
  3. Headwear, Scarves and Shawls

D. Yardage (minimum of three yards)

E. Handspun Items (Can be knitted, felted, hand woven or made with other interlacements)

  1. Hand and foot wear
  2. Headwear, scarves and shawls
  3. Vests and Sweaters, Other garments
  4. Accessories such as necklaces, purses, etc.
  5. Other

F. Handspun Yarn (minimum of 30 yards per skein)

  1. Sheep and Other Animal Fibers
  2. Silk and Plant fibers
  3. Blended Fibers

(There will be ribbons for the (“Best of Show Singles and Best of Show Plied” Yarns in addition to the category awards.)

G. Basketry
