MAWS Welcomes You
to
A Thread Runs Through US!
Through the simple hand manipulation of threads, fiber artists throughout the centuries, and in nearly every cultural and ethnic group imaginable, have helped shape the course of human history! In celebration of the impact fiber has on our lives, the Montana Association of Weavers and Spinners, or MAWS, is hosting the fiber conference, A Thread Runs Through US!, in beautiful Bozeman, Montana, August 23-27, 2006.
Featured instructors will include nationally acclaimed textile artists Mary Zicafoose, tapestry weaver, Patsy Zawistoski, master spinner, and Cass Schorsch, basket weaver. In addition, many talented regional instructors will teach a wide range of textile related workshops and seminars ranging from challenging, advanced study to classes designed just for beginners. Choose to dig in with both hands in classes noted as hands-on, or relax and learn from the experience of others in lecture classes.
Through the ages women have quietly spun, dyed, woven and sewn the garments of kings and paupers while providing care as mothers and wives, spiritual guidance as prophetesses, leadership as teachers, and visionary hope as seers. Keynote speaker, Mary Zicafoose, will escort US on a thought provoking, photographic journey exploring the historical and cultural impact of fiber and cloth on the lives of women worldwide with her slide presentation, “Weaver and Mystic: Women and Cloth”.
Included in the conference will be a fiber fashion show, a sample exchange extravaganza, open shows exhibiting an array of fiber work by MAWS members, and displays by Montana fiber guilds. A Thread Runs Through US! will also host a distinctive trunk show highlighting the creative work of our conference instructors and other invited guests.
Join US in Bozeman as we celebrate fiber!
